What a renovation company does for you

Renovation companies renew interiors: they put up drywall partitions, install suspended ceilings, lay floors, tile bathrooms and convert lofts or basements into living space. For larger projects, many also take on the planning and coordinate the individual trades.

Electrical, plumbing and heating work is carried out by specialists in each trade, often regular partners of the renovation company. That way you have one contact who keeps track of everything on site.

How to prepare your request

Describe which rooms are involved, roughly how large the area is and what is there now, for example which floor covering. The year of construction helps the company estimate what pipes, plaster and materials to expect. In older buildings, adhesives, fillers or boards may contain harmful substances such as asbestos, and the company will check this before stripping out.

A floor plan, even a simple sketch, and photos of the rooms save time at the first meeting. If walls are to be removed, note whether they are load-bearing. If you don't know, the company will clarify this, with a structural engineer if needed.

Comparing quotes properly

Renovation quotes often differ in scope. Check whether stripping out, disposal, protection of the other rooms, materials and final cleaning are included, and which work the company passes on to partners.

Ask for a schedule with the individual stages and how surprises will be handled that only become visible once walls or floors are opened up. References from similar projects and clear written agreements on the warranty give you additional peace of mind.

Questions and answers

Renovation & Interior Fit-Out: frequently asked questions

Can I stay in my flat during the renovation?

If only some rooms are being renewed, usually yes, although you should expect dust and noise. For a full renovation, or if your only bathroom is being redone, staying somewhere else for a while is often more comfortable. Discuss with the company in which order the rooms will be done.

Can I simply have a wall removed?

Walls that are not load-bearing can usually be removed without much effort. Load-bearing walls require a structural calculation and, depending on the project, a permit. In a flat, work on load-bearing walls usually needs the consent of the owners' association.

What is the difference between refurbishing and renovating?

Refurbishing freshens up rooms, for example with a new floor, new surfaces or new doors. Renovating goes deeper and fixes defects or renews the building services, such as pipes, wiring, insulation or damp walls. You can request both through askiana.

What does the request cost me?

Nothing. The request is free for you and without obligation. You decide for yourself whether to work with a renovation company and which one.

How many renovation companies will get in touch?

Up to three from your region that offer exactly this service. Your contact details only go to them.

Can I withdraw my request?

Yes, at any time via the link in your confirmation email. You can also have your contact details deleted there.
