How heating engineers can help

Choose a service and the form above will start straight away with the right questions.

Heat pump

Design and installation of a heat pump, to replace your old heating or in a new build.

  • Air to water heat pump
  • Ground source heat pump with borehole or collector
  • Hybrid heating together with the existing boiler
  • Air to air heat pump or split air conditioner
  • Hot water heat pump
  • Heat load calculation before installation

Heating replacement

Your old heating is replaced with a new system, for example pellets, district heating or gas.

  • Pellet or log boiler
  • Connection to district heating
  • Gas condensing boiler
  • Solar thermal for hot water and heating
  • Advice on which heating suits the house
  • Remove and dispose of the old system

Underfloor heating and radiators

Retrofit underfloor heating or replace radiators, also as preparation for a heat pump.

  • Retrofit underfloor heating by milling channels into the screed
  • Underfloor heating in a new build or renovation
  • Replace radiators
  • Larger radiators for low flow temperatures
  • Wall or ceiling heating
  • Flush underfloor heating

Optimise heating

Hydraulic balancing, a new pump and better controls, so all rooms heat up evenly.

  • Hydraulic balancing
  • Fit a high efficiency circulation pump
  • Thermostatic radiator valves or smart thermostats
  • Readjust or renew the controls
  • Insulate heating pipes
  • Heating check with recommendations

Heating service

Regular servicing and cleaning, so your heating runs reliably and economically.

  • Service a gas or oil boiler
  • Service a heat pump
  • Service a pellet or wood boiler
  • Arrange regular servicing
  • Inspect or clean the oil tank

Repairs and breakdowns

Help when the heating fails, there is no hot water or the pressure keeps dropping.

  • Heating fails or will not start
  • No hot water
  • Pressure keeps dropping
  • Radiators stay cold or make gurgling noises
  • Error message on the unit
  • Leak on the heating or a pipe

What a heating engineer does for you

Heating engineers design and install new systems: heat pumps, pellet and gas boilers, solar thermal or a connection to a heat network. This includes everything around the system, from the hot water cylinder, pipework and controls to removing the old heating and its tank.

Day to day support matters just as much: regular servicing, repairs after a breakdown and optimising existing systems, for example with hydraulic balancing, a new pump or larger radiators. Many businesses also take on bathroom and plumbing work.

How to prepare your request

For a first assessment the engineer needs the heated floor area, the year the building was built, your current heating and its consumption. You will find your annual consumption of gas, oil or pellets on your last bills, and it is especially helpful when planning a new system.

Note whether you have radiators or underfloor heating and what has already been insulated on the house. You can send the engineer photos of the boiler room, the rating plate of the unit and a typical radiator at first contact. For an air to water heat pump it also matters where the outdoor unit could go.

Comparing quotes for new heating

A good quote for new heating is based on a heat load calculation and not just on the output of the old boiler. Check whether removal and disposal of the old system, hydraulic balancing, electrical work, a base for the outdoor unit and commissioning are included.

In Germany, plumbing and heating installation is a regulated trade. Ask for references, about the guarantee on the work and who will carry out servicing later. Funding programmes exist for many measures, and the engineer will know the current conditions.

Questions and answers

Heating & heat pumps: frequently asked questions

Does a heat pump work in an older house?

In many cases, yes. What matters is how warm the heating water needs to be on cold days to keep the rooms warm. With underfloor heating or radiators that are large enough, this often works in older buildings too. The engineer uses a heat load calculation to check whether individual radiators should be replaced or whether insulation is worth doing first.

Air to water heat pump or ground source: which suits my house?

An air to water heat pump needs no borehole or major groundwork, mainly a suitable spot for the outdoor unit. Ground source systems usually work more efficiently in winter, but need a borehole or a larger garden area for collectors, and a borehole usually requires approval from the authorities. The engineer will advise you based on your land, house and consumption.

What does hydraulic balancing achieve?

The heating is adjusted so that each radiator receives exactly the amount of water it needs. Rooms heat up more evenly, flow noises decrease and the system runs more economically. Balancing is usually part of a new heating installation, but it can also be done on an existing system.

What does the request cost me?

Nothing. The request is free for you and without obligation. You decide for yourself whether to work with a heating engineer and which one.

How many heating engineers will get in touch?

Up to three from your region that offer exactly this service. Your contact details only go to them.

Can I withdraw my request?

Yes, at any time via the link in your confirmation email. You can also have your contact details deleted there.
